We feel that we deserve the abusive behaviors and we refuse to be a victim in any way.

However, in a long-term abusive relationship, there is a point in time when the abused party realizes that they were not at fault for the abuse. They were not throwing punches at anyone. They were not making someone else hurt them.

In fact, they were doing everything they could to prevent themselves from being harmed. In this realization comes a great sense of relief because it allows us to move forward from our suffering and start healing from our pain once again.
